a simple summer-time wallpaper.
The photo is a venetian mask of mine. The background is the Terkezi Oasis from the U.S. Geological Survey.
Unfortunately I don’t have a macro lens or a fancy camera. But I do have a big magnifying glass and a bright light.
This was shot with a Fuji Finepix 35mm point-and-shoot through a 4” magnifying glass. Kind of dark overall, but i think i like it.
The chip isn’t anything special. It’s just a 64k eprom chip pulled from an old computer board.
This has turned out to be one of my favorites. I had an idea bouncing around for a while and I think it was finally ready to come out right. Been dreaming of cities in the clouds I guess

I’ve tried to keep the design simple — the focus is on the chrome and tricks of light. i’m pretty happy with the color space and general rendering.

I kept trying to add more to the 2d layout, but I ended up just going back to this simple design.
Used pov-ray’s radiosity features (new at the time) which added a little bit to the feel.
